SprintIT is a software development and consulting company, improving their customers’ competitiveness with agile and business-driven ERP implementations.

With the company's growing headcount across multiple locations and countries, SprintIT wanted to get better visibility into employees’ feelings and employee performance. This would help SprintIT prioritize the most impactful HR initiatives and organization development projects.

Discovering focus areas with real-time results

The start of collaboration was quick and smooth: People Lead Janina Kurki signed up to Teamspective and had a call with their experts to learn about the best way to get started successfully, as well as to get personalised advice regarding SprintIT’s current feedback processes. The following week, the first insights about employee experience were ready to be discussed. SprintIT and Teamspective team had a call to explore these insights together and to make sure that they are interpreted correctly.

SprintIT continued running pulse surveys on a weekly basis. As more insights kept coming in, psychological safety turned out to be a key topic highlighted in the results and Teamspective’s automated recommendations. Janina’s team decided that it would be a great focus area for improvement, as psychological safety influences so many other areas of work and also impacts overall employee engagement.

Another improvement area discovered via pulse results was clarity of goals. SprintIT considered it to be critical for getting the teams and employees to work effectively and in a common direction, hence it was agreed to be another focus area.

Time to take action: development discussions and educational workshops

After identifying focus areas, SprintIT decided on two main action points.

First, they wanted to educate their employees about psychological safety, its impact on everyone at the workplace, and the role of each employee in improving it. Though management teams had to take the lead on improving the issue, it was important to emphasize that results will be achieved through joint efforts. SprintIT decided to invite Teamspective’s experts to host an online workshop where these themes were discussed.

Second, to improve clarity of goals SprintIT implemented a new development discussion process. The objective was to ensure every employee has regular meetings with their manager to get development-supporting feedback and to have an opportunity to talk about the most important focus areas in their roles. At the same time managers received new guidance and support for having these discussions with their team members.

Tangible impact in just 2 months

In just 2 months, SprintIT launched Teamspective, identified improvement opportunities with pulse surveys, implemented development discussions and workshops, as well as validated significant improvement with fresh pulse results.

Together with Teamspective’s clients, we have found that ‘Clarity of goals’ and ‘Satisfaction with feedback’ are key contributors to employee engagement, performance, and retention.

After the workshop on psychological safety, 27% of employees reported an increase in their psychological safety. Psychological safety remained consistently at the higher level, and even 6 months later was 20-30% better with no employees reporting low psychological safety.
